Last week of August the “World Trumpet Society”(WTS) held its inaugural event that took place at the DAN School of Music of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario (Canada) BlackBinder, the best digital sheet music reader app, caught the attention of all attendees there and gave its name to one of the competitions: “BlackBinder Senior International Solo Trumpet Competition.”
At WTS we found a lot of talent, including the three finalists of the competition:
- Brent Proseus (Rockford, MI: 3rd prize)
- Noah Mennenga (Cottage Grove, WI: 2nd prize)
- And the winner of the competition Sam Jones (New York, NY) who amazed the members of the jury with his great performance.
Sam Jones went on stage accompanied by Clare Miller as pianist, his trumpet, the BlackBinder app with its library of digital scores sheet music and the automatic scroll, which allowed him to concentrate only in his performance and the freedom of not having to turning pages.
The organization projected the digital score behind them, allowing judges: Richard Stoelzel, Stéphane Beaulac, Stefan Johnsson, John Raschella and Trent Sanheim and attendees to enjoy reading the piece that was being performed at the same time, giving a plus to the performance.
This exciting 4-day event was filled with lectures, masterclasses, and performances by global artists that have caught the attention of trumpet fans.
Founded in 2015, the WTS has already been stipulated as one of the main Brass events where we can discover new talents as well as innovative ideas that are gradually being introduced into the world of music.
